Finding excitement in HISTORY!

Let's face it, learning about history can be super mundane. History books leave a lot to be desired. As I wrote about in my last blog, I went on a curriculum journey over the summer to get the boys ready for this year. Part of that journey included finding a history curriculum that was hands on and interactive. Not to toot my own horn LOL, but I nailed it. Again, not a sponsored thing here, just a mama giving her homeschool review. We are currently learning about American History (which we have had our hands in for a while, but I am a firm believer in repetition… especially when it comes to the land we live in!). So, I am not going to drag this out. We chose the American History Lap Book by Sonlight. We use our American History textbook from Abeka to do some extra reading along with library books and Britannica, etc. The kids are having a blast… and they are in 8th and 9th grade!! The teenage years can be a hard time for getting them involved and keeping their attention, but they love this situation. It gives them book knowledge, but it also gives them something to make and look at that triggers memory for them with regards to retaining information. We are coming to a close on American History I Lap Book in about two weeks and will then begin the US Elections Lap Book leading up to the elections in November. I legit believe they will remember making these books for a very long time! I will keep you posted on how the next lap book goes, but so far we are thoroughly impressed!
